IIT Indore Researchers Develop Breakthrough Solar Cell Technology

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore have achieved a groundbreaking milestone in renewable energy. Their newly developed perovskite solar cell has achieved an impressive 30% energy conversion efficiency, setting a new national record.

The Research

Led by Professor Neha Gupta from the Department of Physics, the team spent three years developing a novel tandem architecture that combines perovskite with silicon layers. The results have been published in the prestigious journal Nature Energy.

Impact

This breakthrough could significantly reduce the cost of solar energy in India. The technology is expected to be commercially viable within 2-3 years, with potential partnerships already being discussed with major solar manufacturers.

IIT Indore Director Professor Suhas Joshi congratulated the team, calling it a proud moment for the institute and the city.
